New site manager for Evonik units at Marl/Wesseling sites

Evonik completes the new management structures at its Marl and Wesseling sites: SYNEQT, with around 3,500 employees, got off to a successful start there at the beginning of the year.

  • Experienced chemical park manager is responsible for nearly 4,200 employees directly employed by Evonik
  • Newly created role consolidates the company's activities at the sites
  • New management structure with chemical park site manager and Evonik site manager is now complete

The infrastructure specialist under the umbrella of Evonik combines the operations of the two chemical parks on the Rhine and Ruhr and is headed by Thomas Basten as spokesman for the management and site manager of the Marl Chemical Park. In Wesseling, Dr. Arndt Selbach is responsible for the chemical park as site manager. Dr. Olaf Breuer will now take on the role of Evonik site manager for the units operating directly within Evonik.

In his new role as Evonik site manager for Marl/Wesseling, Olaf Breuer will represent the Group locally, in the public sphere, and in his capacity as employer.Breuer has been with Evonik since 2011 and already has experience as a site manager—from 2018 to 2021, he was responsible for Evonik's operations and strategic development at the Rheinfelden site (Baden-Württemberg) as site manager. Subsequently, the doctor of physics headed the group-wide Engineering for Evonik (EN4E) program as Vice President Engineering and led the Sustainability Integration department. Since 2025, Breuer has been responsible for environmental, compliance, and investment issues at the chemical company Evonik, as well as for the technical management of Evonik's real estate company.

“Olaf Breuer is a strong and experienced contact person for the two major sites in Marl and Wesseling. The consolidation of all Evonik interests there, which has been completed with his new role, is the next logical step in actively developing the two sites,” says Thomas Wessel, Chief Human Resources Officer and Labor Director at Evonik and responsible for Evonik's infrastructure unit on the Executive Board. “The clear assignment is also an advantage for our operating company SYNEQT—it now has a clear contact person for all questions relating to Evonik's business units.”

Olaf Breuer lives in Marl and is already familiar with Evonik's largest production site from previous positions in his professional career, including as plant manager at Vestolit. The 58-year-old will take up his new position on February 1, 2026.
